| | | Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten, which is protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Celiac disease causes damage to the intestines leading to diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, weight loss, and poor absorption of food. A gluten-free diet allows the intestines to heal and eliminates all symptoms. However, a strict gluten-free diet can be challenging and can lead to nutrition deficiencies in itself without the proper guidance.
An appointment will include extensive nutrition education covering reading food labels, identifying processed foods that contain gluten, grocery shopping, finding wheat alternatives, eating out and more. An analysis of the client's current nutrition status will be performed as well as monitoring stomach and intestinal symptoms as the client's diet is modified. |
